Reflections of Suburbia: Gemma Land

Gemma Land creates works which explore structure, symmetry and geometry. Bourgeois Utopias, a series of photographs inspired by Land’s research into suburban housing in London, is a haunting collection of images which investigate ideas of the perfect home. In an inspired twist, the photographs were recently used to create a collection of scarves, launched at the London and Paris Fashion Weeks. A new collection, Strawberry Hill, is soon to be released. For more, go to Gemma’s website.

Grab your sunnies, here’s Josh Goot

Josh Goot at London Fashion Week

Josh Goot at London Fashion Week

Turn off the lights! This blinding collection of bright and bold apparel is by none other than Aussie designer Josh Goot. Goot presented this range at the recent London Fashion Week where he took the unusual step of featuring these sassy, sexy items in an open air car park. The wildly graphic collection, is made up mostly of elongated t-shirt dresses, mini dresses and tanks. However, the garments themselves really play second fiddle to the designers choice of sharp and urban prints. Colour-phobes please note: Goot also designed a more restrained range in black and white. Phew!

1980s Riot at London Fashion Week

Basso and Brooke Spring/Summer 2010

Basso and Brooke Spring/Summer 2010

News just in from London’s Fashion Week: the Eighties are BACK for spring/summer 2010! Bright colours and bold, graphic prints dominated the collections this week alongside metallics, jumpsuits, snakeskin and tiger stripes. Grrrrrr! Also big on the agenda was the use of digital prints for fashion (pioneered by British-Brazilian duo Basso and Brooke – see other entries on this blog regarding this talented couplet). This week many other designers applied this forward-thinking technique such as Kinder Aggugini (who worked for two decades with Versace, John Galliano and Calvin Klein), and emerging designers Danielle Scutt and Peter Pilotto. Age of Aquarius

I found this divine, blinding creation on a British blog called Style-Eyes (get it?) which I think is a real fab fashion find. The blog and the dress, that is…Designed by Basso & Brooke, this collection conjures up auditioning for a lead role in Hair, the musical; licking a Splice icecream in the sunshine; or chasing a rainbow. The fashion label, Basso & Brooke, is headed by Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke, who in September 2004, won Fashion Fringe which is part of London Fashion Week. This talented duo describe their style as playful, subversive and individual; while they claim the inspiration for their 2009/10 Spring/Summer collection includes artist Jeff Koons, hyper-reality and photographer Herb Ritts. What about that musical?
