Dreaming of Dior
Isn’t life funny? Get this: my husband purchased the same gift for Christmas that I also purchased for my mother! Of all the thousands, well millions, really, of possible choices available out there, we were both taken in by the cover and then the contents of
Dreaming of Dior, a new book published by Harper Collins. This gorgeously tactile publication, that encites such bizarre behaviour as clutching and caressing, traces the fashion adventures of author Charlotte Smith who had the good fortune of inheriting 5000 pieces of vintage clothing from her godmother, Doris Darnell. Each piece in this extraordinary collection, which dates from 1790 to 1995, has had a life of its own — this is where Charlotte steps in. She recounts whimsical and fascinating adventures which take the reader to cocktail parties in Monte Carlo, art galleries in Paris, weddings in Italy and the like. However, the book would not be complete without the stunning, exotic and unique illustrations by Grant Cowan. The cover is a real winner complete with touchy-feely felt and scrumptious black and hot pink a-la-miss-moss! I love it!
