MISS MOSS loves Fabulous Vintage

I came across a great vendor called Fabulous Vintage at the Kirribilli Markets on Sunday. Bridget sources rare vintage fabrics, mostly from the UK, and transforms the colourful meterage into gorgeous cushions, bags, lampshades and such. She also offers an interior design consultancy service, which means she comes to your home and helps you make it look fabulous. See more images on the Fabulous Vintage facebook page. Following are some images of the fabrics that Fabulous Vintage has at present, with more set to arrive in around a fortnight. I simply can’t work out which one I like best – they’re all so sensational.

Reflections of Suburbia: Gemma Land

Gemma Land creates works which explore structure, symmetry and geometry. Bourgeois Utopias, a series of photographs inspired by Land’s research into suburban housing in London, is a haunting collection of images which investigate ideas of the perfect home. In an inspired twist, the photographs were recently used to create a collection of scarves, launched at the London and Paris Fashion Weeks. A new collection, Strawberry Hill, is soon to be released. For more, go to Gemma’s website.

An evocative, slightly eerie twist on Gemma Land's impressions of suburbia.

Welcome to the new look MISS MOSS!

It’s out with the old and in with the new. While it’s still a work in progress I’m working towards a fresher, more contemporary site + branding which will reinvigorate online shopping + life in general at the MM HQ. Plans in the pipeline also feature the inclusion of other brands for sale in our e-boutique. Watch this space!

What’s Not Too Love About Karim Rashid?

What’s not to love about NY based designer extraordinaire Karim Rashid? Check out these sample projects: a sound absoorbtion panel (in HOT pink – me like!): a very funky restaurant fit-out (can’t say our local restaurants look like this!) ; and a home interior space (very sci-fi- when can I move in?). I’ve always been a big fan of Karim’s after I first stumbled upon his work when I worked for MONUMENT magazine around 15 years ago. His repertoire includes design for furniture, products, interior spaces, packaging, art, fashion and such. What a multi-tasker! ANd how about his art work below. Retro with a futuristic edge. Love the colours.

Eco Style: Book Extract

Eco Style: Published by New Holland

Book Extract from Eco Style by Siobhan O’Brien, first published in 2005 by New Holland. This is an excerpt from Eco Style, a book I penned on all things green/sustainable/ecological. Great if you’re building or renovating. It can be purchased online through this website.

ECOLOGY: A HISTORY
A house as an eco system? To some people this is a new concept. But ecological design is not new. (more…)

I.D Magazine is D.E.A.D!

It’s an outrage! I.D. Magazine, the oldest product design magazine in the United States, is closing it’s doors after more than half a century in business. The final issue will be out in January. The official line for axing the publication includes: dwindling print ad revenue, the specialised needs of the magazines’ readers, and the wealth of information available for free. What does such a move signal for the future of the print industry? Or has most of the world moved online anyway? Any thoughts?

Mr. Pixel

MR PIXEL

MR PIXEL - A.K.A THE VERY TALENTED CRISTIAN ZUZUNAGA

Is colour contagious? Looks like the passion for a painterly palette has spilled over from this year’s fashion ranges into the design realm. (For rainbow inspired fashion examples, check out: Josh Goot; Basso and Brooke and Marc Jacobs) Spanish born designer Cristian Zuzunaga (now London based) has zoomed in on colour, literally, to create a new print design perspective.
